Established in 1969, we stand as one of the UK's earliest steel bands, founded by a passionate group of Caribbean and British individuals united by their love for steelpan music.
Our mission is to promote the rich cultural heritage of steelpan music across the UK and Europe.
Ebony's remarkable legacy includes an unprecedented 23 victories at the National Panorama competition during Notting Hill Carnival, with an incredible eleven consecutive wins, a feat unmatched by any other band. In recognition of our outstanding contributions, we were honored with the prestigious Queen’s Award in 2005 for our dedicated service to the community spanning over 18 years.
Beyond our illustrious achievements in competition, Ebony is committed to fostering artistic expression and community engagement through a diverse range of activities and workshops suitable for individuals of all ages. Join us as we continue to inspire, educate, and celebrate the vibrant world of steelpan music.
Under the esteemed leadership of Augustine 'Pepe' Francis MBE, who assumed the role of Band Chairman in 1971 and Director in 2005, Ebony has soared to unprecedented heights. With over fifty years of dedicated leadership, Pepe continues to guide the fifth generation of Ebony Steel Band players.
